Three injured in early morning accident

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — First responders from the Fire Department of New York rushed to the scene of a multi-car accident on Staten Island. According to SILIVE.com, the accident happened in the Princes Bay neighborhood of Staten Island around 4:25 a.m. in the morning. At least three people sustained injuries in the crash. Their present medical conditions are not known at this time. There were no reports of arrests or any charges issued at this time as a result of the accident.

According to an FDNY spokesperson, first responders received an emergency call for service reporting an accident at 4:25 a.m. The accident scene was reported to be Hyland Road and Cornelia Avenue. The scene of the crash was found to be near the gate to Wolfe’s Pond Park. Fire and rescue crews transported three injured parties to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze for treatment. There were no additional details forthcoming about the injured parties’ medical status. The FDNY spokesperson did not elaborate as to how the crash might have happened.

SILIVE.com analyzed traffic accident statistics for Staten Island auto accidents maintained by the City of New York as well as the State of New York for the years 2015 and 2016. Interestingly, SILIVE.com found a discrepancy between the number of crashes recorded by the City of New York compared to the State of New York for Staten Island.

The City of New York listed well over a thousand more crashes for each year than did the State of New York. Notwithstanding, SILIVE.com determined that the leading cause of the accident for both 2015 and 2016 on Staten Island was driver distraction. The news outlet determined that in 2015 citing a second vehicle for a traffic violation was the second leading cause of Staten Island crashes in 2015 and failing to yield was the third most-cited cause.

In 2016, driver distraction maintained the top spot. However, not yielding to the right of way was the second leading cause of accidents and unsafe backing was listed at the third leading cause of crashes.

When I signed up with the Victim's Compensation Fund ("VCF"), Parker Waichman ("PW") guided me through the entire process. Without their guidance I wouldn't have gotten through it. They do outstanding work and they care deeply for their clients. Tina Morace is pleasant, patient, and very professional. She held my hand through the process of getting all the documents together. Tina is a valuable employee at PW, I hope PW appreciates her as much as I do.
