According to an online news report posted on qns.com, an alleged drunk driver traveling at a high rate of speed collided with a motorist involved in a minor “fender bender” accident. The collision occurred on the Belt Parkway in South Ozone Park.
According to law enforcement, the accident occurred on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at approximately 12:45 in the morning. The NYPD accident report states that a 63-year-old man was heading westbound on the Belt Parkway by 131st Street when the 63-year-old man rear-ended a car belonging to a 28-year-old man.
The accident was a minor “fender bender.” The 28-year-old man pulled his vehicle into the left lane as the other motorist involved in the fender bender kept his automobile in the center lane. The two drivers then stepped out of their cars to examine the damage. Both men got out of their cars to inspect the damage when a 34-year-old man drove into one of the motor vehicles and the driver of that vehicle.
Law enforcement officers from the 106th Precinct arrived at the accident scene and discovered the motorist was lying on the ground and was unconscious due to an injury to his head. EMS personnel transported the accident victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead the next day on Thursday, December 10, 2020.
The other drivers stayed at the scene of the accident and provided statements to the law enforcement officers. The suspected drunk driver was taken into police custody after officers thought he had been driving while intoxicated. According to the police, the man has been charged with “refusal to take a breathalyzer test” and “driving while intoxicated.” The accident is currently being investigated by the NYPD’s Highway Division’s Collision Investigation Squad.
