MANHATTAN, N.Y. — A male teenager might face charges after he slammed his BMW luxury automobile into a pedestrian on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The police who are actively investigating the crash suspect that speed played a significant role in the fatal accident, according to a report published by NYC.streetsblog.org. The pedestrian was only 25-years-old when he died. Police said he was trying to cross 97th Street around 6:30 in the evening. The driver of the BMW is only 18-years-of-age. The police did not arrest the driver of the BMW at the scene of the pedestrian accident. Despite their decision not to charge him at the crash site, the police said that is investigating how fast he was going at the time of the incident.
Police said that the 25-year-old pedestrian killed in the collision lived a short distance from the scene. Medics rushed him to the closest trauma center, which was New York-Presbyterian/Will Cornell Medical Center suffering from substantial head and body trauma, according to freedomnewstv.com. The young pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Reports from the scene indicate that the pedestrian was properly within the crosswalk when he was hit on 97th Street and 5th Avenue. Additionally, a witness at the scene who took a video of the police investigation showed the driver and his passenger laughing and goofing off. The video reportedly shows a police officer grabbing some garbage from the backseat of the 2015 white BMW sedan. The BMW was heading south on 5th Avenue when the accident happened. The video shows that the young driver, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, pulled tight around his head to joke with bystanders as well. The video also depicts a large pool of blood on the street left behind by the man who died. Still, photos from the scene show no problems with lighting in the area when the crash happened. There was little damage to the BMW visible.
