SHIRLEY, NY — A collision between a pedestrian and a motor vehicle in Shirley resulted in the demise of the pedestrian. The Shirley Patch reports that the fatal crash happened on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at approximately 1:10 p.m. Suffolk County Detectives continue to investigate the accident and they have not issued any charges up to this juncture. That may change pending the outcome of their investigation.
The man struck and killed, 66-year-old Rayvern Williams, who was from Shirley, suffered mortal wounds after 31-year-old Nyehsia Skipwith, and ran him over while he was trying to cross a street. Detectives from the Suffolk County Seventh Squad said that Mr. Williams attempted to walk across the southbound lanes of William Floyd Parkway near Bushwood Drive when Ms. Skipwith, who was driving a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C300, struck him.
Emergency medical personnel provided emergency response duties and transported Mr. Williams to Long Island Community Hospital, located in East Patchogue. Physicians were unable to revive the man. Doctors say Mr. Williams died as a result of blunt force head trauma. Ms. Skipwith did not suffer any injuries in the crash. She remained at the scene of the collision. Suffolk County Detectives impounded the Mercedes and will perform testing on it to see whether the car was in proper operating condition.
Photographs taken at the scene and publicized on Twitter provide additional insight as to how the accident transpired. A photograph of the white Mercedes shows little damage to the car. However, a dent on the hood of the car is visible, and the windshield is smashed. The dent is in a location consistent with a person being struck in the legs and flopping onto the hood and windshield, then being violently cast off.
A second photograph depicts medical equipment, bloody sheets, and Mr. Williams’ shoes in the middle of the road. The photo is remarkable for what is not there as well: there is no crosswalk in the vicinity of the crash.
