Fall risks have prompted a recall of 46,000 Kolcraft Tender Vibes and Light Vibes Bassinets, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.
The recalled Kolcraft Bassinets were manufactured in China; distributed and manufactured by Kolcraft Enterprises Inc., of Chicago, Illinois; and sold at mass market and independent juvenile specialty stores, nationwide and online, from July 2008 through May 2012. The recalled bassinets were manufactured from July 2008 through May 2010 and retailed for between about $50 and $100.
The latches that attach the Kolcraft Bassinet base onto the metal frame can appear to be locked in place but can still remain unlocked. This defect allows the recalled Kolcraft Bassinet to become detached from the metal frame, causing the bassinet to fall and the infant to be injured.
To date, the CPSC and Kolcraft have received seven reports of latches that detached from the bassinet frame. In once case, an infant received a bruised cheek when the bassinet detached from the metal frame and landed sideways on the floor with the infant inside.
This recall includes the following Kolcraft Tender and Light Vibes bassinets:
A label with the model/item number of the recalled Kolcraft Bassinet is located on one of the legs of the bassinet’s metal frame. The words “Kolcraft Tender Vibes” or “Kolcraft Light Vibes” are located on the removable music box, which is attached to the side of the bassinet.
The firm advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Kolcraft Bassinets and contact the firm by phone or online to receive a repair kit and instructions for securing the latches to the metal frame. In the meantime, parents are urged to find an alternate, safe sleeping environment for the child, such as a crib that meets current safety standards, or play yard, depending on the child’s age.
