The Fellowes Climate Control Footrest’s fan can become blocked and overheat when used in the upright position, posing a fire hazard. To date, no injuries or incidents have been reported.
The recalled footrests, which were manufactured in China, are black and made of plastic. Of note, China is a country long associated with products that have been found to be dangerous and linked to an increasing and significant string of recalls.
The Fellowes brand item #80309 can be found on the serial label at the bottom side of the footrest, which can be identified by Revision or letter “A†on the label, which appears after the date code.
The recalled Fellowes Climate Control Footrests were sold to Business-to-Business resellers only, including Office Depot Business Services Division; SP Richards; Staples Advantage; United Stationers; Tri-Mega; and WW Grainger. These products were not sold in retail locations. The recalled footrests sold from October 2009 through January 2010 for about $73.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Fellowes Climate Control Footrest and contact Fellowes to arrange for product return and replacement or a full refund.
