A deadly hit-and-run accident left one man dead on the Southern State Parkway, Newsday reports. State Police are investigating the incident and seeking out the vehicle responsible.
A spokesman said the two-vehicle crash occurred at about 6:28 a.m. eastbound on the parkway just west of Exit 32, Route 110, killing a male driver between 40 and 50 years old. The car that fled the scene is a light-colored, possibly gray sports utility vehicle with tinted windows. There was substantial front-end damage to the car, which was last seen driving south on Route 110 toward Amityville. Police say the license plate may contain the letters “GHJ”.
According to the state Department of Transportation’s website, the center and right lanes of the eastbound parkway were alternately closed by investigators from the time of the accident until around noon. All three lanes were closed for a short amount of time between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Anyone with information about the accident should contact State Police at 631-756-3300.
