Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail, or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy persons may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The problem was discovered after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors; subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel found the product to be positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
Tuv Taam Salads Brand Nova Lox Salad is packed in a 17-ounce plastic container coded Sell By 12/03/2010. The recalled salad was distributed to Costco locations in New York and New Jersey and is a product of the USA.
