A massive toy recall of over 17 million Little Tikes® Workshop and Tool Sets are being recalled. This is an expansion of a prior recall of 1.6 million toy workshop sets and trucks constructed with the same defective oversized, plastic toy nails.

The recalled Little Tikes® Workshop and Tool Sets’ oversized, plastic toy nails can pose a choking hazard to young children. To date, the firm has reported two additional incidents, occurring prior to the August 2009 recall, of children who choked when the toy nail became lodged in their throats. Both children were treated in a hospital, making a full recovery.

In the prior recall, the firm received one report of an 11-month old boy from Goose Creek, South Carolina, who choked when the toy nail become forcefully lodged in his throat. That child was also hospitalized and also made a full recovery.

The defective Little Tikes® Workshop and Tool Sets were manufactured in the United States and China by Little Tikes, of Hudson, Ohio and were sold by mass merchandise retailers nationwide from 1990 through 2004 for between $25 and $100.

The toy nails are oversized, plastic, and measure about 3 1/4 inches in length by 1 1/4 inch in diameter and are either red or blue and have a large round head. There is a plastic ridge below the nail head that is slightly smaller than the nail head and is approximately 1 inch in diameter. The model number may be found on some of the products:
