The Modern Fan Company Inc., of Ashland, Oregon, just recalled about 1,300 <“https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/product_liability”>Pensi Ceiling fans, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.
The Pensi Fans were recalled because the internal coupler that connects the down rod assembly to the motor can break and cause the fan to fall from the ceiling, posing an injury hazard to consumers. To date, the firm received four reports of incidents in which the fan fell from the ceiling while operating. No injuries have yet been reported.
The recalled Pensi Fans, which were manufactured In China, contain model numbers beginning with or containing “PEN-AA-“ or “PEN-GW-†and have an Aluminum/Anthracite or a Gloss White finish. The recalled Pensi Fans retailed for between $400 and $530 and were sold at Internet retailers, lighting showrooms, fan specialty stores, and electrical distributors nationwide from August 2008 through July 2009.
We have long been writing about the myriad problems associated with imports entering the United States from China. In recent years, imports from China have been at the center of safety worries in the United States and other countries and have impacted everything from medications, to children’s toys, to consumer products, such as this recall involving defective Pensi Ceiling Fans, which were manufactured in China.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately turn off the power to the fan to stop use and to contact The Modern Fan Company for assistance with model identification and a replacement coupler. Consumers are also advised to not allow anyone underneath the fan. In the event that a fan falls, consumers should immediately turn off the circuit breaker due to the possibility of exposed electrical wires.
