Approximately 51,000 units of <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/product_liability">Paula Deen® Hammered Cast Iron Cookware, which was sold by QVC Inc. of West Chester, Pennsylvania, is being recalled due to burn and laceration hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.
The recalled Paula Deen® Hammered Cast Iron Cookware was distributed by Meyer Trading Co. Ltd, of Hong Kong and was manufactured in China.
We have long been writing about the myriad problems associated with imports entering the United States from China. In recent years, imports from China have been at the center of safety worries in the United States and other countries with Chinese-made products impacting everything from medications, to toys, to consumer products, to pet food, to tooth paste. This recall of the Paula Deen® Hammered Cast Iron Cookware is just one of many recalls of products made recalled for safety issues.
The recalled cookware can crack or shatter, posing burn and laceration hazards to consumers. To date, QVC and Meyer Trading have received 79 reports of the recalled cookware cracking or shattering while heated. One consumer reported a minor burn injury to an arm.
This recall involves the Paula Deen® 11-inch cast iron grill pans and griddles. The recalled Paula Deen® cast iron grill pans and griddles were sold as QVC item numbers K14984, K11970, and K135024 and are black with the Paula Deen® logo and the product size engraved on the bottom. No other Paula Deen® cookware is involved in this recall.
The recalled Paula Deen® Hammered Cast Iron Cookware was sold through QVC’s televised shopping programs, its Web site at www.qvc.com, and QVC retail and employee stores from October 2007 through July 2009 for between $35 and $55.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled cookware. Known purchasers were mailed instructions for obtaining a full refund; consumers who purchased the cookware at a QVC store should return it to any QVC store for a full refund.
