The recalled Joss Rock Climbing Cams were manufactured in Italy by Cassin Sri, of Italy; imported by Sierra Trading Post, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and sold at Sierra Trading Post, nationwide, from August 2003 through March 2006. The recalled Joss Rock Climbing Cams retailed for between $3 and $32.
The recalled Joss Rock Climbing Cams can fail unexpectedly after being set, posing a fall hazard. To date, one incident was reported in Europe; no deaths or injuries have been reported in the United States.
The defective Joss Rock Climbing Cam is a mechanical device that is placed in the crack of a rock to support a climber’s weight. The device is operated by a trigger that retracts the aluminum lobes, which enables the device to be placed and secured in the crack of a rock. A cable is attached to the device with a heavy-duty nylon sling attached to the end of the cable.
Joss Rock Climbing Cams are produced in eight sizes; each Cam is marked with the size (.5 to 4). The sling on the end of the cam features solid horizontal blocks of color—yellow, orange, purple, red, green, and blue—that indicates the size. The “Cassin” logo is also printed on a tag attached to the sling.
The Sierra Trading Post item numbers involved in this recall are #69277 and #69278 and are located on the original packaging label or order invoice.
Consumers are advised to stop using the defective Joss Rock Climbing Cam and return it to Sierra Trading Post for a full refund, including shipping.
