The company supplying Trader Joe’s retail stores with its Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter has has issued a recall of its own and now more companies that get product from the same supplier have begun issuing recalls, fearing it could be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

According to a report from FoodSafetyNews.com, Sunland Inc., of Portales, N.M., issued a recall on Sept. 24 on supplies of peanut butter leaving its production facility. The recall includes any and all peanut butter and nut butter products made on or after May 1, 2012. A day after the recall, health officials confirmed that at least 30 people in 19 states have already been sickened after eating one of numerous brands of the company’s peanut butter. Four of the victims have required hospitalization for treatment of their symptoms.

Sunland Inc.’s recall included more than 100 brands of peanut butter and other nut butters. As such, other companies which get their peanut butter and other products from Sunland have issued recalls of their own to keep their customers informed of the dangers. The peanut butter from Sunland is either packaged as jarred peanut butter or the product is included in other items distributed by companies dealing directly with the New Mexico company.

The latest company to issue a subsequent recall because its products use Sunland peanut butter is Oregon Ice Cream Co. That company has issued a recall on its Alden’s Peanut Butter ‘n’ Chip ice cream, sold in 48-ounce containers, and its Cascade Glacier Chocolate Peanut Butter, sold in 3-gallon containers. The Alden’s ice cream product has a five-digit production code date stamped or printed on the bottom of the container while the Cascade Glacier ice cream is sold in a 3-gallon tub with a blue sticker on it containing production codes and the name of the ice cream printed on it.

In other recalls involving products that use Sunland peanut butter, Fairytale Brownies has recalled select Lots of its peanut butter brownies and peanut butter cookies. These items were available mostly through a mail-order campaign but some were made available at the retail level. Fairytale indicates that it began purchasing peanut butter products from Sunland in the middle of August until the company announced the recall.

Late July Organic Snacks has also issued a recall on its Organic Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers because they also contain the suspect product from Sunland. The source indicates the following product codes are included in the recall.
