Cabot Wood Cleaner and Wood Brightener have been recalled for irritation and burn hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.
About 17,500 units of the Wood Cleaner and 10,900 units of the Wood Brightener are involved in the recall; the products are packaged in a container with a spray pump. The spray pump can lose its seal, which can cause the product to leak. The chemicals used in both the Cabot Wood Cleaner and the Cabot Wood Brightener can cause burning or other serious injuries should the product come into contact with the skin or eyes, or is ingested.
To date, three incidents of leaks have been reported. No injuries have been reported.
The Wood Cleaner and Wood Brightener are manufactured in the United States by Cabot Stains, a division of Valspar Corp., of Newburyport, Massachusetts and were sold at Ace Hardware, Do It Best, Farm & Fleet, Lowes Home Improvement Stores, United Hardware, and other hardware stores, nationwide, from March 2011 until June 2012. The recalled Wood Cleaner and Wood Brightener retailed for about $25 each.
Both products come in 1.3-gallon white handle tanks with a black pump assembly and a sprayer hose. The front of the container bears a yellow Cabot label with the product name. The back panel label contains instructions for use and product information and UPC 080351810503 on the Wood Cleaner bottles and UPC 080351810497 on the Wood Brightener bottles.
The firm advises consumers to immediately discontinue use of the recalled Cabot Wood Cleaner and Wood Brightener and return the products to the store of purchase for a full refund.
