EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn, N.Y. — The family of a 51-year-old man from Staten Island is devastated after a motorist killed a man in the East New York section of Brooklyn as reported by abc7ny.com. The man’s family is having a difficult time coming to terms with the realization that their beloved family member will never come home again. New York Police accident investigators say that a male driving a sports utility vehicle ran the man down and then drove away from the scene of the crash. Police finally captured the man they say is responsible for killing the 51-year-old man and breaking the hearts of that man’s family.
Detectives with the New York Police Department’s Collision Investigation Squad pursued leads to find the hit-and-run driver that ran down the 51-year-old Staten Island resident. The detectives stated that the suspect, a 43-year-old man from Brooklyn, ditched his Jeep Cherokee on Jerome Street and McClancy Place after the crash and then fled. Police located the SUV about two hours after the deadly crash about two or three blocks away from the scene of the crash located at Linden Boulevard and Barbey Street. Officers widened their dragnet and arrested the driver about 12 hours later.
Now, the man police assert is the hit-and-run driver faces charges of leaving the scene of personal injury and equipment violation. The equipment violation was for having tint on the windows that was too dark. Meanwhile, the grieving family faces life without their loved one.
A resident of Linden Boulevard who lives in a home adjacent to the accident scene said that the area is busy. The man philosophically stated to abc7ny.com that one never knows what is going to happen when you walk outside the door.
The criminal investigation continues.
