Pedestrian Accident in Brooklyn, New York
BROOKLYN, NY – July 7, 2020 – According to an online news article on NYDailyNews.com, a woman from Brooklyn was tragically killed when she was struck by a car involved in a chain-reaction pedestrian collision. The accident was caused by a 25-year-old man who was speeding on Ocean Avenue in Midwood. The driver ran a red light at Avenue J at approximately 7:15 at night on Sunday. The speeder left the scene of the accident, and he has been charged with manslaughter, according to police statements made on Monday.
The chain-reaction accident occurred when the 25-year-old man crashed his Black Kia sedan into a Lexus sedan, which was moving forward when the traffic light turned green, according to the police. The accident sent the Lexus sedan into the 58-year-old victim who was walking in a crosswalk on Ocean Avenue. The woman was only a block from her residence, and she sustained a fatal head injury.
The 25-year-old man then struck an Infiniti SUV before he exited out of his Kia and fled the scene, according to police statements. The man was caught by law enforcement officers who were near the scene of the crime.
The victim was transported by emergency medical personnel to Maimonides Medical Center. However, the victim passed away. The victim made her living as a babysitter in Manhattan. She used the money she earned to send money to help her daughter and other family members living in Ukraine.
The Infiniti driver, a 38-year-old man, was not injured. However, the 26-year-old man who was driving the Lexus was transported and later admitted to Coney Island Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is in stable condition.
The speeder has been charged with numerous crimes: failure to yield to a pedestrian, criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter, reckless driving, and vehicular assault. The defendant lives approximately one half-mile away from the accident scene, according to authorities.
