Pedestrian accident on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — SILIVE.com reported that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle near the entrance to the St. George Terminal on Staten Island. The pedestrian crash happened around 7:09 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Officers from the New York Police Department took the matter under investigation. There was no information available about any charges relating to the crash. Also, there was no information about the medical condition of the pedestrian.

A person riding the shuttle involved in the incident told SILVE.com that the shuttle was turning very slowly when it struck the pedestrian. The reporting party told SILIVE.com that the pedestrian was a female. The witness said that the woman went to the ground after being hit by the shuttle but could tell that she remained conscious throughout the ordeal. The witness said that people on the shuttle immediately called for emergency help. Also, the witness said that several pedestrians walking in the area ran to provide aid to the stricken woman. Shortly after that, officers from the NYPD and an ambulance from the Richmond University Medical Center responded to the scene of the collision reported to be on Richmond Terrance on the ramp to the upper level.

A photograph of the area appearing on the SILIVE.com website shows the shuttle bus parked along the curbing of the right side of the entrance ramp along with at least one NYPD police car and the ambulance. Police tape cordoned off the area so investigators could perform their duties. Neither the FDNY nor the NYPD disclosed the extent of the female pedestrian’s injuries.

A victim of a pedestrian crash has two options to recover compensation for his or her losses stemming from the accident. The first option is filing a no-fault claim against the driver’s insurance. The injured pedestrian must file the no-fault claim within 30 days of the accident. The driver’s no-fault insurance can cover the victim’s losses up to $50,000.00.  The accident victim can file a bodily injury claim against the driver for a substantial or severe injury when the damages exceed $50,000.00.
