DYKER HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN, NY – A news article posted on abc7ny.com reports that a vigil was held in remembrance of a six-year-old girl who was tragically killed by a driver who was driving in the wrong direction on a street in Brooklyn. The victim was walking home with her mother last Tuesday night. The child and her mother were walking home from the park when a 30-year-old SUV driver tragically struck and killed her. The family was only a few steps from their home.
The driver was criminally charged with criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and for driving in the wrong direction.
According to the NYPD, there has been a sharp rise in the number of pedestrian fatalities throughout the city this year. The report states that there have been 78 fatalities this year. The report states that New York City is on track to be the most deadly year since 2014. 12th Avenue in Dyker Heights has had 30 pedestrian collisions in 2020.
A nurse arrived at the scene the day of the accident. She began performing CPR when the nurse saw that child had stopped breathing. She urged the child’s mother to lay down the girl so the nurse could perform CPR. However, the child’s mother did not want to let her daughter go.
