Man dies in hit and run
EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn, N.Y. — SILIVE.com reports that a Staten Island resident died in a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn. Law enforcement investigators did not initially release the man’s identity. However, police have ultimately released the man’s name, most likely after authorities made notification to the victim’s next-of-kin. The crash remains under investigation even though New York City Police made an arrest in the case.
Law enforcement officers from the New York City Police Department descended on the intersection of Linden Boulevard and Barbey Streets. Reports state that the victim was struck by a vehicle while crossing Linden Boulevard either just before midnight.
SILIVE.com reported, citing law enforcement sources, that the officers who responded to the call found the victim in the road and horrible physical condition. SILIVE.com stated that police said the man had multiple points of trauma over his entire body. Emergency medical response personnel transported the victim to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center with critical injuries. He died in the hospital.
A witness to the incident described the fleeing vehicle to investigators. As a result of the description of the suspect vehicle the witness gave to the police, officers found the suspect Jeep Cherokee a few blocks away from the crime scene. The car was abandoned on the side of the road. The driver of the vehicle was at large when the police found the car used in the crime. Officers could not find the vehicle right away. However, officers located the Jeep Cherokee after searching the vicinity of the crime for about two hours. The subsequent police investigation identified a suspect, and police have since taken him into custody.
