THE BRONX, N.Y. — The parents of a Fordham University student who fell 40 feet in a clock tower were present with their daughter when she drew her last breath the Daily Mail reported. The parents of the 22-year-old Fordham senior are devastated and crushed. The couple lives in Oregon with their younger daughter. It was not known if they were in the New York area when their daughter fell, or they had to fly across the country to be with her in her final moments. The 22-year-old student died Sunday morning, April 14, 2019, after falling the night before.
Heartbroken and crushed were the words a close friend of the student’s family used to describe the emotional state of the parents who rushed to the side of their dying daughter. The 22-year-old Fordham senior fell approximately 40 feet on Saturday night reportedly through a gap in a staircase in the Fordham clock tower. She was with a group of Fordham seniors Saturday night. According to the report filed in the Daily Mail, the group of friends had eaten dinner at a local restaurant and planned to climb the tower as a “rite of passage” because they were scheduled to graduate in May. Reports varied as to whether the group wanted to get a better view of the New York City skyline or were planning on posting their trip on social media. The Daily Mail report indicated that the victim posted a video on social media entitled “Clock Tower” moments before she fell.
The campus landmark is off limits to visitors. A spokesperson for the University said the school would not seek disciplinary measures against the surviving students for trespassing in the tower. The spokesperson also stated that the school would award the victim’s diploma to her posthumously. There was no information provided in the article concerning funeral arrangements.
