BETHESDA, MD – The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) issues an urgent safety warning concerning a popular baby bath seat that is sold exclusively on Amazon.com that could be linked to drownings. The CPSC stated that around 5,000 BATTOP Foldable Infant Bath Seats are being recalled following the product’s failure to meet the “federal safety standard for baby bath seats.”
At this moment, there have not been any reported injuries or deaths. However, the baby seats failed to meet the federal requirements for stability and tip during use. According to the CPSC, this presents a serious drowning hazard to babies.
The BATTOP baby seats were exclusively sold on Amazon.com from July 2020 through October 2020 for about $40. The affected baby seats have a model number BB2206 which may be located on the sticker placed on the backside of the chair. Purchasers will also find the following product information on its packaging: “BATTOP Foldable bath seat, Model: BB2206, Manufacturer: DONGGUAN BABYCARE PRODUCTS CO., LTD., Made in China.”
Purchasers, parents, and caregivers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled BATTOP foldable baby seats and to contact BATTOP concerning free shipping to return the baby seat and how to receive a full refund.
