FDA – According to a news article posted on miamiherald.com, CytoSport is recalling four lots of its Evolve protein drinks due to a deadly food allergy issue. The recalled protein drinks are sold in packs of 411 ounce cartons. The Evolve protein drinks are being recalled nationwide after it was discovered that a supplier accidentally created a potentially deadly allergy situation.
According to a United States Food and Drug Administration’s recall notice, which was drafted by the products manufacturer CytoSport, states that “a third-party supplier was found to have supplied ingredients cross contaminated with soy protein.“. The letter states that consumers who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy face it potentially deadly allergic reaction should the consumer unknowingly consume the recalled products. The manufacturers letter stated that soy allergic reactions can be mild, severe, or even fatal.
The recall affects four packs of Evolve Vanilla Bean Protein Drinks with manufacturing dates of that have manufacturing dates of December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2020, and Evolve Double Chocolate Protein Drinks with the manufacturing dates of December 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021.
The article states that if consumers do not have a soy allergy, they can enjoy the protein shakes. However, if you or a family member has a soy allergy, your urged to return the protein shakes at the place of purchase to receive a full refund.
