WASHINGTON D.C. – According to a news report on whnt.com, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a safety recall of over 400,000 bottles of Excedrin due to a manufacturing defect that poses a potential poisoning risk to small children. The safety notice states that the recalled lots of Excedrin have a hole at the bottom of the plastic bottle that allows children to get and swallow the painkillers leading to an overdose, injuries, or death.
The Excedrin recall affects 50, 80, 100, 152, 200, 250, and 300-count bottles of Excedrin Migraine Caplets, Excedrin Tension Headache Caplets, Excedrin PM Headache Caplets, and Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets. The over-the-counter drugs were sold online and in retail stores nationwide from March 2018 through September 2020.
According to the information provided in the recall notice, Excedrin contains acetaminophen and aspirin. According to the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, any medication containing acetaminophen or aspirin must be sold in child-resistant packaging.
