Petzl Scorpio Eashook Lanyard Lawsuit
According to a recall announcement published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Petzl has recalled its “Lanyards with Carabiners” due to a dangerous defect that may cause severe injuries or fatalities. The Petzl Scorpio Eashook Lanyard with Carabiners’ defect involves the carabiner’s gate automatic closing system. The closing system might malfunction, resulting in serious injuries or deaths to users.
This recall affects approximately 52 units sold in the United States and Canada.
This recall includes Petzl Scorpio Eashook lanyards that have aluminum carabiners at both ends of the retractable polyethylene arms. The lanyard is designed for adventure park use and can support up to 264 pounds. The lanyard also measures around 30 inches when un-retracted or approximately 43 inches when fully extended. The word SCORPIO is printed on the gray pouch that holds the energy absorber. The name Petzl is also printed on the gray pouch connected to the lanyard. The units have a serial number that ranges from 21A 0000000 000 through 21I 9999999 999, which is printed on the white tag attached to the gray zipper pouch.
Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the lanyards and contact Petzl to receive a full refund, including all shipping costs. Petzl will provide a postage-paid label to customers so that they can return their recalled lanyard.
The recalled lanyards were sold at Ouray Mountain Sports, Omni Progear, Backcountry Gear Ltd., Moosejaw Mountaineering, and other outdoor boutique shops nationwide. They were also sold online at www.petzl.com. They were sold from January 2021 until February 2022 for approximately $180.
