Pfizer Accuretic Cancer Lawsuits
According to express.co.uk, Pfizer has initiated a recall of its Accuretic high blood pressure medication due to cancer risk. In the past two weeks, Pfizer has recalled its Accuretic and Inderal medication due to their “potential carcinogenic properties.”
When medicine is discovered to increase the risk of serious injury or disease, the manufacturer ordinarily pulls that medication or product from the market. This is what Pfizer has decided to do with its Accuretic drug. Accuretic is not the first blood pressure medication to be pulled off of the market in 2022. Pfizer has recalled two medications in Canada due to cancer risks. Three days before this recall announcement, Pfizer pulled Inderal due to similar cancer risks.
The recalls state that Nitrosamines, a known cancer-causing chemical, was found in the company’s Accuretic and Inderal medications. Low levels of Nitrosamines are harmless to humans. Nitrosamines are found in certain foods, the air, and drinking water. However, if Nitrosamines are consumed in high amounts over an extended period of time, Nitrosamines can increase a person’s risk of acquiring cancer.
Health Canada suggests that patients taking these medications should consult their doctor for treatment alternatives. Health Canada says that not treating the medical condition poses a greater health risk than taking the medications at this time. Health Canada also stated that it might identify and recall other products as appropriate.
