According to a recall announcement published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Specialized Bicycle Components has initiated a recall of its Sirrus, Sirrus X, and Sirrus Sport Bicycles with alloy cranks. The recall involves a defect that caused the recalled bikes’ crank arms to disengage, resulting in the bicycle’s operator losing control of the bicycle, leading to falls and injuries. The recall was announced on March 16, 2022, and affects around 19,000 (36,000 bikes were recalled back on September 23, 2020).
This expanded bicycle recall affects Specialized Sirrus X 3.0 and 4.0 bicycles with the model years 2021 and 2022. The initial recall on September 23, 2020, involved Sirrus, Sirrus X, and Sirrus Sport bicycles with 2019 and 2020 model years. The word “Sirrus” or “Sirrus X” is printed on the bicycle’s top tube, and its model name is written on the bicycles’ seatstay. The Specialized Bicycle Components bicycles were sold in different colors. The models included in this expanded recall include:

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled bikes and contact their closest authorized Specialized Bicycle Components retailer to receive a free repair. According to Specialized Bicycle Components, the company will be contacting all known owners directly.
According to Specialized Bicycle Components, the company has received 30 incident reports involving the crank arm disengaging on model years 2021 or 2022 Sirrus X 3.0 and 4.0 bicycles. Authorized Specialized dealers sold the bicycle nationwide and on the internet from July 2020 until March 2022 at a price of between $850 and $1,700. Federal law forbids any individual from selling products that are subject to a voluntary recall launched in consultation with the CPSC or any commission-ordered recall.
