According to a recall announcement posted on Consumer Product Safety Commission, ToolGuards Portable Water Immersion Heaters are being recalled due to the risk of electrocution and fire dangers. The water immersion heaters were sold exclusively on Amazon.com and were imported by FXswede AB. The water immersion heater can overheat, melt or catch fire, posing shock, electrocution, and fire hazards. The recall affects approximately 5,000 units.
These recalled ToolGuards Portable Water Immersion Heaters were sold on Amazon.com from December 2021 through February 2022 at a price of $45. The water heaters were manufactured in China. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recall announcement recall number is 22-734.
The recall announcement states that ToolGuards portable water immersion heaters have a thermostat built into the unit. The ToolGuards portable water immersion heaters are described as having TOOLGUARDS printed on the unit. The affected models have a model number TG_IMH_01 and a batch number of PO100301 printed on a silver tag placed on the unit’s black plastic base. The recalled portable water immersion heaters are used to heat water for pools, foot baths, water buckets, and other locations.
Consumers who purchased the recalled ToolGuards portable water immersion heaters are urged to immediately stop using water immersion heaters and call FXswede AB to receive a full refund. Moreover, owners of the recalled water heaters are advised to unplug the heaters, cut the electrical cable, and send a photo of the water immersion heater with the cut cord and their Amazon order number to the company to prove the device has been destroyed to receive the refund. Customers are asked to dispose of the recalled water heater after presenting proof of destruction. The company is reaching all known purchasers directly.
So far, there have been 19 reports of the recalled water immersion heaters catching on fire, melting, or overheating, and two reports of customers getting shocked.
