Since the 1960s, Claire’s has been a retail experience known to Americans for its jewelry and makeup for young women and teens. Recently, however, Claire’s had to recall some of their products for being potentially hazardous to consumers’ health. Last week, another Claire’s recall struck the stores after products were suspected to contain asbestos, a known carcinogen.
The Second Claire’s Recall In Six Months
The second Claire’s recall in just over three months, Claire’s complied to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) request to recall their products after warnings were issued on June 6th that certain makeup products sold by the chain contained asbestos. The contaminants were detected as part of a follow-up to the previous Claire’s recall that had occurred in March of this year.
Claire’s initially disputed these findings in both instances, but later caved to FDA requests and recalled their products. The products affected in the current Claire’s recall are:
- Beauty Plus Global Contour Effects Palette 2, Batch No. S1603002/PD-C1179
- Claire’s JoJo Siwa Makeup Set, SKU #888711136337, Batch/Lot No. S180109
The reason for the removal of these products was that their talc bases were tested and showed positive signs for asbestos contamination. As a show of good faith, the manufacturers of both products have also issued recalls for the products.
At this time the FDA, Claire’s, and the manufacturers recommend disposing of any of these products affected by the Claire’s recall that consumers may have purchased.
