Honda Recalls 82,000 Pioneer 1000 Side-By-Sides Due to Throttle Stick

Honda recalls

WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Honda Motor Company, Inc., recalled 82,000 Pioneer 1000 side-by-side off-highway vehicles due to throttle problems. According to a consumer alert posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on June 13, 2019, the vehicle’s throttle can stick. The risk of being involved in a serious crash increases dramatically if the throttle gets stuck in the down or open position. American Honda said that it had devised a method of repairing the affected vehicles and will do so free of charge to the consumer. Honda has learned of numerous incidents in which the recreational vehicles’ throttles were stuck open, which lead to crashes and at least two serious injuries.

American Honda announced its recall campaign for 82,000 of its Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles. American Honda recalled the off-highway four-wheel vehicles because of reports that the throttles were sticking in the open position while in use. American Honda received no fewer than 15 complaints of throttles sticking. Consumers reported to American Honda that in at least six instances, crashes occurred because the throttle was stuck open. American Honda reported two injuries from the crashes, including a concussion and a broken nose.

American Honda manufactured the vehicles subject to the consumer alert announced on June 13, 2019, by the Consumer Product Safety Commission from August 2015 to March of 2019. Honda manufactured all of these vehicles in the United States but did not specify at which plant the vehicles were produced and assembled. Authorized dealers sold these vehicles in a range between $14,000.00 and $22,000.00.

American Honda recommends Pioneer 1000 owners to contact their authorized American Honda dealer for an inspection and repair if required. American Honda will not charge its customers for the recall service. American Honda advised owners to stop riding the Pioneer 1000 immediately until American Honda makes the necessary repairs. The company will contact owners of the recalled vehicles directly about the recall initiative.
