Staten Island Traffic Backed Up Following Multi-Vehicle Accident 

STATEN ISLAND, NY. – (silive.com) Traffic was heavily backed up following a multi-vehicle accident on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island. The story is reported by silive.com.

A wreck involving several vehicles occurred on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. The accident was on the upper level and reportedly occurred on the span bound for Staten Island. Emergency responders arrived to the site of the wreck around 3 p.m., and traffic on both sides of the upper level was blocked as crews worked on scene. Drivers were encouraged to use the lower level of the bridge during this time. Particularly near rush hour, the closure of the upper level caused delays for motorists in the area.

No injuries requiring hospital transport were reported by the New York Fire Department. No information about the vehicles or vehicle occupants has been released. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and have not released updated information to the public.

According to accident data from the New York City Police Department, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge has been the site of numerous accidents so far in 2018. In March alone, the upper level of the bridge on the Staten Island side saw 17 vehicle accidents. These accidents involved 45 people total, and two of the accidents resulted in injuries to the people involved. Most of the accidents were caused by drivers following too closely or driving too fast.

The lower level of the bridge on the Staten Island side was the site of four vehicle accidents in March 2018, which involved 10 people. One of these accidents resulted in injuries. The primary causes of these accidents was also drivers following too closely.
