Two Roads Were Closed After The Accident. Suffolk County, New York police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that seriously injured at least one person. The accident, in Hauppauge, closed portions of Routes 111 and 347 early Thursday.
The two roads were closed at the intersection after the accident occurred just after 12:20 a.m., a police spokeswoman said. Route 347 westbound and Route 111 south of the intersection were reopened around 5:30 a.m., Newsday reports.
The Driver And His Passenger Were Taken To Stony Brook Hospital
A car carrying a driver and his female passenger heading south on Route 111 collided with the Stony Brook Fire Department chief’s sport utility vehicle, police said. The driver and the woman were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where the woman is being treated for serious injuries.
The driver’s injuries were not life threatening, Newsday reports. The driver of the Stony Brook Fire Department SUV was airlifted to Stony Brook, also with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the accident appears to be noncriminal. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
