TRIBECA, NY. – (patch.com) As reported by patch.com, two workers were rescued by emergency responders May 11 after their scaffold malfunctioned on the side of a Tribeca skyscraper.
Tribeca officials received a call about two glaziers stranded on a scaffold outside a Tribeca skyscraper. The wind reportedly caught the men’s scaffold and turned it perpendicular to the building, breaking several windows of the skyscraper in the process. The workers were trapped between the 45th and 46th floors of the building at 111 Murray Street.
Emergency responders were able to reach the men and pull them from the scaffold into the building through the windows. Authorities said both men, who were ages 36 and 44, refused treatment following the incident. A pedestrian was hit by falling glass when the scaffold turned, and this person reportedly also refused medical treatment. The response from the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department was praised publicly, as members of the community congratulated the emergency workers for quickly and successfully rescuing the two men.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and have not released any additional information. The two glaziers have not been identified, and the company they work for is not known at this time. The pedestrian has also not been identified. No other injuries were reported.
The building at 111 Murray Street is a 64-floor residential tower of luxury condos. The development has been under construction and was completed earlier this year. It is not known whether the building was damaged outside of the broken windows.
