ORLANDO, Fla.– April 17, 2018 (News 6 Orlando) According to a news report from News 6 Orlando, two people died in an early morning collision involving a dump truck. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred near Sand Lake Road, on the John Young Parkway.
A woman was driving northbound when her vehicle veered abruptly into the right lane and hit the back of an unoccupied dump truck. The car that ran into the dump truck was so severely damaged that emergency rescue personnel had no other choice but to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the woman and her daughter from the wrecked vehicle. Both the driver and her daughter died at area hospitals from injuries sustained in the crash.
This early morning accident, which occurred just before 4 AM, is a tragic reminder that drivers must use additional caution when driving late at night or early in the morning because road work is often done throughout the overnight hours when there is less traffic on the roads. Construction zones can be present at any time of day or night, and drivers must remain alert and ready to respond to lane closures and other traffic control devices that divert traffic around work zones.
In this particular situation, the dump truck driver may eventually be found to be partially responsible for the accident because the dump truck was parked partially in the traveled lane of the highway. Workers who are repairing the roads must follow all applicable safety rules, and vehicles are not supposed to park in traveled lanes of roadways. It is possible that more information regarding the exact cause of the accident and who was responsible for it will be revealed as the investigation into the crash progresses.
