Simon Cowell’s E-Bike Accident
THE US – August 14, 2020 – According to an online article posted by Health.com, Simon Cowell sustained several spine fractures after an e-Bike accident. After the pandemic hit, e-bikes became a popular mode of transportation for people living in major cities who were used to riding on mass transportation. The e-bike rentals and sales boomed, and now there are numerous accidents occurring each day, resulting in injuries and deaths.
The electric bike or “e-bike” is an emission-free, energy-efficient mode of transportation, which is much faster a regular bicycle. According to data provided by Google, there has been a spike in “Google” searches for “best electric bike.” The trend began on March 22, 2020, just two weeks after the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the coronavirus was a pandemic.
However, e-bikes have some serious safety concerns. Simon Cowell, “The America’s Got Talent” judge, crashed his e-bike and suffered numerous spine fractures. It has been reported that Simon Cowell was trying out his new e-bike in front of his Malibu home when he was involved in a severe e-bike accident. Simon Cowell’s fracture required a six-hour surgery and doctors put a metal rod into his back.
A recent British Medical Journal study found that riders injured while riding e-bikes were more likely to sustain internal injuries. Also, these injuries often required hospital admission, whereas people injured on pedal bicycles typically did not need hospitalization.
E-bikes are legal in all 50 states. However, New York just passed a law to stop its ban on throttle-driven e-bikes. Most e-bikes are classified as pedal-assist, and so the bicycle’s power only turns on when the rider pedals the bicycle. However, some e-bike models also have a throttle. Throttle-based e-bikes typically move at a higher rate of speed than pedal-assisted e-bikes.
