QUEENS, NY – According to an online news report published on amny.com, a fire truck was involved in a severe accident leading to injuries. The news report states that a volunteer firefighter was injured when the firefighter swerved out of another motorist’s way, causing the fire truck to overturn. The accident occurred in Breezy Point, Queens, according to FDNY fire officials.
The firefighter who was injured in the accident was transported to Community Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, to receive medical treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries.
According to fire officials, the accident happened at approximately 5:30 in the evening. The accident involved the fire department’s “pumper truck.” According to the news story, the Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Corps pumping truck was heading along Rockaway Point Boulevard. The driver told police officers with the 100th Precinct, who are investigating the crash case that he swerved to prevent a collision with another motor vehicle. As a result of the sharp turn, the fire truck flipped onto its side. The accident took place near Beach 215th Street. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a spring on the pump truck broke, and this caused the truck to overturn.
The police and FDNY responded to the accident scene, and they found the driver was outside of the fire truck. The Rockaway Point Ambulance Corps transported the fire truck’s driver to a nearby hospital for accident injury treatment. Another firefighter was inside the truck during the accident and was fortunately uninjured.
