The CPSC stated that these bicycle helmets do not meet federal safety standards and can fail to protect bicyclists in the event of a bike accident resulting in head and brain injuries. The CPSC’s warning states that the defective TureClos bicycle helmets also fail to comply with federal regulations concerning positional stability, impact attenuation, retention system, and certain labeling requirements that are required on bicycle helmets.
The Chinese seller, Dongguanshisuyubgsgabgnaiyiuxiangongsi, is refusing to recall the dangerous bicycle helmets or provide a remedy to purchasers. The CPSC stated that the agency would continue to pursue a recall. In the U.S., companies with dangerous products have the option to initiate a voluntary recall to show good faith. However, if a company refuses to issue a safety recall concerning a product deemed unsafe by the CPSC or the FDA, these agencies could force a recall. The process of forcing a recall can vary widely depending on the specific circumstances of the case. The affected bicycle helmets are black in color with blue accents, black and white stripes, or black straps with a red buckle. There are no outer markings and no inside labels.
The CPSC stated that it tested the TureClos bicycle helmets and ascertained the helmets do not meet U.S. federal safety standards for bicycle helmets. The CPSC is urging consumers to immediately stop using the affected bike helmets, cut the chin straps, and then throw the helmets away.
