Queens, New York – A news report posted on NY nydailynews.com states that NYPD arrested a fatal hit and run accident driver after causing an accident at a Queens intersection that killed one of his passengers. The 23-year-old man allegedly fled the accident scene, leaving his passenger with fatal injuries to die.
According to the news report, the hit-and-run driver was speeding eastbound along Atlantic Avenue in one of the passenger’s black Honda Accord when he collided with a Ford F150 pick-up truck. The Ford F-150 was attempting to turn south on to 111th Street in Richmond Hill at approximately 1 AM. Later that day, law enforcement officers found the suspect and placed him under arrest. The suspect’s name was not released at the time, and criminal charges are pending.
Surveillance camera video showed the man’s Honda flying through an intersection as it struck the pick-up truck’s front end.
The Honda Accord continued eastbound along Atlantic Avenue and was involved in another accident with a Mercedes Benz SUV that was parked in front of Leahy McDonald Funeral Home.
According to the news report, at least one passenger in the Honda Accord was ejected during the accident, according to an eyewitness. The eyewitness who saw the horrific accident stated that she was entering her workplace, the Atlantic diner, at approximately 6 AM. She then witnessed the accident and then spoke to law enforcement.
Emergency services medics transported all three Honda Accord passengers to the Jamaica Hospital, where one of the passengers who sustained a severe head injury passed away. The 49-year-old pick-up truck driver declined medical attention. The 65-year-old woman who was driving the Mercedes Benz that was parked at the time of the collision sustained minor injuries and was taken to Jamaica Hospital.
When law enforcement questioned the surviving passengers, who were in the Honda Accord, they identified the motorist who fled the accident scene.
The fatal motor vehicle accident is currently under investigation by the NYPD. No additional details were provided about those involved in the accident.
