Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel Alcohol 80% and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel Permanent Blindness Lawsuit Attorneys

In a recent announcement, federal health officials have issued a recall for multiple batches of aloe gel and hand sanitizer due to the alarming presence of methanol, a compound known to pose severe health risks to consumers. Specifically, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has flagged 40 packages of Aruba Aloe Hand Sanitizer Gel Alcohol 80% and Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel as containing “alcohol denatured with methanol.” This revelation has prompted a swift response to mitigate potential harm to the public.

Methanol exposure presents a grave danger, with potential consequences ranging from death to permanent damage to the central nervous system. Symptoms of substantial methanol exposure include nausea, vomiting, headaches, blurred vision, coma, seizures, and even permanent blindness. Such hazards underscore the critical need for immediate action to remove these products from circulation.

Consumers are strongly advised to discontinue the use of the affected hand sanitizers and to dispose of them properly. The recall specifically targets hand sanitizer gel from Aruba Aloe Balm N.V., packaged in 12-ounce dark green plastic bottles with white labels, bearing the inscription, “ARUBA ALOE Hand Sanitizer GEL 80% Alcohol Made in Aruba World’s Finest Aloe.” Additionally, Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel, available in 2.2 fluid oz and 8.5 fluid oz plastic bottles, is included in the recall.

The transparent bottles of Aruba Aloe Alcoholada Gel are labeled as a pain-relieving gel containing 0.5% Lidocaine Hydrochloride, intended to offer temporary relief from discomfort and itching caused by mild burns, sunburns, bug bites, or minor skin irritations. Despite these intended uses, the presence of methanol renders these products hazardous to consumers’ health.

This recall is part of a broader effort by the FDA to address the proliferation of potentially harmful hand sanitizers during the pandemic. With over 600 hand sanitizers identified as potentially hazardous due to methanol content, vigilance is paramount in safeguarding public health. While methanol finds common use in industrial settings, its presence in consumer products such as hand sanitizers presents an unacceptable risk.

It’s crucial to recognize that while all individuals using these products are at risk, certain groups are particularly vulnerable. Young children who may accidentally ingest these products and adolescents or adults who consume them as a substitute for ethyl alcohol are especially susceptible to methanol poisoning. Such risks highlight the urgent need for decisive action to prevent further harm.

The affected products were distributed between May 1st, 2021, and October 7th, 2023, and were available for purchase online in the United States through the website of Aruba Aloe Balm N.V. In light of this recall, consumers are urged to exercise caution and verify the safety of any hand sanitizer products they may possess.

Filing a Methanol Blindness Lawsuit

In the event that individuals have suffered harm or injury as a result of using these recalled hand sanitizers, they may have grounds for legal recourse through a product liability lawsuit. Victims of such injuries may be entitled to seek damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other related losses. However, navigating the legal process can be complex, requiring the expertise of skilled attorneys experienced in product liability cases.

Filing a lawsuit seeking damages for injuries caused by a defective product involves several essential steps. Firstly, victims must gather evidence to establish the product’s defectiveness and the resulting harm. This may include medical records, product packaging, purchase receipts, and any relevant correspondence with the manufacturer or retailer. Next, victims must initiate legal proceedings by filing a complaint in the appropriate court jurisdiction.

Throughout the lawsuit process, having competent legal representation is crucial. Attorneys specializing in product liability cases can provide invaluable guidance and advocacy at every stage, from initial consultations to settlement negotiations or trial proceedings. Their expertise in navigating complex legal statutes and precedents ensures that victims’ rights are protected and pursued to the fullest extent under the law.

In a product liability lawsuit concerning injuries caused by defective hand sanitizers containing methanol, victims may be eligible to recover various forms of compensation. These damages may encompass economic losses such as medical expenses and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for pain and suffering, emotional distress, and diminished quality of life. By seeking legal recourse, victims can hold negligent manufacturers and distributors accountable while obtaining the financial resources needed to rebuild their lives.

I was in a car accident about a month ago, and had no idea what to do or where to go for help. As I was struggling to walk one morning, when the commercial for Park Waichman came on and the jingle stuck in my head "1800 Just Call, just call that's all!" Well, I called, and like the jingle says, that's all I had to do. Everyone at the office has been a very present help, and always answer my calls and emails timely. Julie and Maryann have been so patient and wonderful with my constant questions, and have taken care of everything! Joanne has been a constant reassurance in reaching out to check on me and make sure that my medical needs are being addressed by my health care providers and that my care is progressing as best as possible. She has a very warm and kindhearted demeanor, which makes everything seem like it will be ok. Thank you for that Joanne, it means the world to me! I would highly recommend the team at Parker Waichman.
