BlendJet Recalls 4.8 Million Portable Blenders Due to Fire and Laceration Hazards

Safety Concerns Arise Over Popular BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders

BlendJet Inc. has announced a significant recall affecting approximately 4.8 million BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders in the United States, with an additional 117,000 units sold in Canada. The recall, initiated on December 28, 2023, follows numerous reports of the blenders posing serious fire and laceration hazards. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled blenders immediately and contact BlendJet for a free replacement of the blender base.

The BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders, sold in a variety of colors and designs, have been reported to overheat or catch fire, and the blender blades can break off during use. These hazards pose significant risks to users, with the potential for severe injuries. The blenders measure approximately 9.5 inches in height and 3 inches in width, weighing around 1.5 pounds. The recall applies to units where the first four digits of the serial number are between 5201 and 5542, printed on the bottom of the base along with “blendjet2” and “The Original Portable Blender.”

To address the issue, consumers should check if their blender is part of the recall by using the “Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?” tool available on the BlendJet website. If the blender is affected, consumers need to remove and cut the rubber seal from the base into three or more pieces and send a photo showing the serial number on the bottom of the unit and its rubber seal in pieces to BlendJet. This will entitle them to a free replacement of the base unit. Further information can be obtained by contacting BlendJet toll-free at 844-334-0562 or visiting their recall information page online.

The recall stems from approximately 329 reports of blender blades breaking during use and 17 reports of the units overheating or catching fire. These incidents have resulted in property damage claims amounting to approximately $150,000. Additionally, there have been 49 reports of minor burns and one reported laceration injury. The blenders were sold at major retailers including Costco, Walmart, and Target, as well as online at BlendJet.com, from October 2020 through November 2023, priced between $50 and $75.

Filing A BlendJet 2 Injury Lawsuit

The hazards associated with the BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders highlight the severe risks consumers face from defective products. The primary dangers identified—overheating leading to fires and blades breaking off during use—can result in serious injuries. Consumers using these blenders may suffer from burns, lacerations, and potentially more severe injuries if the devices malfunction during operation.

Victims injured by defective BlendJet 2 blenders may be entitled to file a lawsuit seeking compensation for their injuries. The process of filing a product liability lawsuit involves demonstrating that the product was defective and that this defect directly caused the injury. Key evidence in such cases includes medical records, detailed accounts of the incidents, and expert testimony on the product’s flaws and the resulting dangers.

The role of an attorney is crucial in this legal process. An experienced product liability lawyer can guide victims through each step, from the initial filing to negotiating with the manufacturer or insurer. Legal representation ensures that the victim’s rights are upheld and significantly increases the likelihood of a successful outcome. Attorneys can help secure necessary documentation, gather expert witnesses, and build a compelling case to prove the product’s defect and its direct link to the injuries sustained.

Victims in a product liability lawsuit can seek various types of damages. These include compensation for medical expenses, both past and future, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In cases where the manufacturer’s conduct is found to be particularly negligent, punitive damages may also be awarded. These damages are designed to punish the manufacturer and deter similar future conduct.

For those injured by BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders, it is vital to understand their rights and the legal options available. Consulting with a knowledgeable attorney can make a significant difference in achieving fair compensation and justice for the injuries sustained.
