The 6L Power Stroke Diesel Engine, also commonly known as the Ford 6.0 L diesel engine, was manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company and Navistar, Inc. The engine was used in Ford’s F250 / F350 Super Duty trucks and Ford Excursion vehicles for model years 2003-2007. Ford 6L Power Stroke Diesel Engine class action lawsuits claim that manufacturing and design defects render the Ford 6.0 L diesel engine, as well as the vehicles, unmerchantable and unsuitable for use. Plaintiffs also allege that the enormous costs associated with Ford 6.0 L diesel engine repairs and loss of use of their vehicles has caused them significant financial harm. They further claim that the defective engines have caused the resale value of affected F250 / F350 Super Duty Trucks and Ford Excursion vehicles to be diminished, something even Ford acknowledges.
In 2007, Ford filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against Navistar, Inc. over the same 6L Power Stroke Diesel Engines alleging they were defective. Ford accused Navistar of failing to pay its share of the warranty costs that Ford had incurred in connection with warranty claims filed by owners and lessees of the Ford vehicles. At the same time it was taking Navistar to court, Ford concealed its knowledge of the engine’s defects from consumers. The carmaker even went so far as to tout the supposed superior qualities of the 6L Power Stroke Diesel Engine in its advertising.
In 2009, Ford entered into a nationwide class action settlement to resolve claims of defects in the 6.0 L Power Stroke Diesel Engine in the case Williams A. Ambulance, Inc. v. Ford Motor Company. The settlement covered owners of model year 2003-2007 ambulances equipped with the 6.0 L Diesel Engine, and provided extended warranties and payments to owners of ambulances with the 6.0 L diesel engine. However, this settlement provided nothing for owners of F250 / F350 Super Duty Trucks or Ford Excursion Vehicles with the 6L Power Stroke Diesel Engine.
Despite being very aware that the 6L Power Stroke Diesel Engine is defective, Ford refuses to pay for the repair costs incurred by owners of affected F250 / F350 Super Duty trucks and Excursion vehicles, yet continues to profit from the service and repair work that is the result of these faulty engines. Lawsuits over the Ford 6.0 L diesel engine seek financial damages for owners of affected F250 / F350 Super Duty trucks and Excursion vehicles, including return of the purchase price of the vehicles, costs and expenses incurred in attempted repairs, and loss of use of the vehicles.
