Black Decker Recalls Over Faulty Fan Cover. A recall is being issued for Black & Decker electric blower/vacuum/mulchers due to a laceration hazard. The problem stems from the fact that the fan cover can unlatch unexpectedly, causing injuries. Townson, Maryland-based Black & Deck is recalling about 560,000 units sold from May 2013 through September 2016. The products were sold nationwide at Lowe’s, other stores and also online at Amazon.com.
The company is aware of four cases where the fan covers came off unexpectedly. Consumers report that the issue caused finger lacerations. The products being recalled include the Black & Decker 3-in-1 electric blower/vacuum/mulchers with model numbers BV5600, BV6000 and BV6600. Only “Type 1” blower/vacuum/mulchers are affected by the recall. Consumers can check the name plate on the right side of the motor housing to see if “Type 1” is printed; the model number is located there as well.
The products are orange with black accents. The fan cover is also black. There is a two-speed switch. The attachments included were a blower tube, vacuum tube and reusable collection bag. For model BV6600, there was also a rake attachment.
Consumers who own these products are advised to stop using them. These individuals can contact the company for a free repair kit.
