John Deere Recalls Backhoe Attachments. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced its recall of John Deere’s backhoe attachments for compact utility tractors.
The tractor’s mounting hardware could loosen and cause the backhoe frame to rotate toward the operator, which poses a crushing hazard, according to the CPSC. The recall involves approximately 50 units.
The recalled John Deere backhoe attachments were sold at John Deere dealers nationwide from May 2016 through June 2016 and retailed for approximately $10,700. The attachments were manufactured in the United States by Deere & Company, of Moline, Illinois.
This recall involves the John Deere 485A backhoe attachments for the following John Deere compact utility tractors:
- 4044M
- 4044R
- 4049M
- 4049R
- 4052M
- 4052R
- 4066M
- 4066R
Recalled Products’ Serial Number
The recalled John Deere 485A backhoe attachments bear serial numbers beginning with 1LV0485ACG0030+++. The complete list of serial numbers included in this recall is available on the CPSC’s website.
The backhoe attachments are green with a leaping deer John Deere logo printed on the side. The model number 485A is printed on both sides of the backhoe attachments. The serial number may be found on the rear of the backhoe’s mainframe.
According to the CPSC, to date, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
Consumers are advised by the CPSC to immediately stop using the recalled backhoe attachments and contact a John Deere dealer for a free repair. Meanwhile, John Deere is contacting all registered owners directly.
This August, John Deere recalled approximately 5,400 lawn and garden tractors over a laceration risk because the tractor’s reverse implement option (RIO) may fail. The RIO is a safety systems that stops power from reaching the mower blades when the tractor is in reverse. Of the 5,400 units, 166 were sold in Canada; the remainder were sold in the United States.
As with the most recent recall, consumers were advised to immediately stop using the recalled tractors and contact John Deere for repair.
